Breathing To Harmonise Your Natural Cycles

There’s a topic that is big in the breathing world at the moment: circadian rhythm. Put simply, that’s your natural rhythm driven by your 24-hour internal clock that runs in the background in your brain. It’s also known as the sleep-wake cycle.

When it comes to sleeping, your body has a natural cycle. Most of your regeneration programs happen when you’re sleeping but sometimes your circadian rhythm might be out of sync.

It’s no secret that many people struggle with getting a good night’s sleep due to stress on the system. It affects us all to different extents but one thing’s the same, if you’re getting shit sleep, you’re going to feel shit.

You can use your breathing to get into your rhythm, but breathing alone isn’t enough. We’ve realised the importance of harmonising your natural cycles with mother nature.

Light up your life

There are complex systems going on inside your body while you’re living your day-to-day life. For example, the mitochondria – power generators of a cell – convert fuel into usable energy. One such fuel is light.

Most of us forget we are still part-plant. We use animal photosynthesis – using sunlight to transport energy around our body and to tell which cells to turn on and which to turn off.

The majority of us get ready for our day inside our home, get into a car to travel, and work a 9-5 job indoors. That means we’re spending most of our time under foreign lighting and only see a smidge of natural sunlight.

So it’s important that we chase the sun. By that we mean get up early to breathe in the sunrise, or at least see natural sunlight between 07:00 am – 08:00 am (depending on the time of year and your location) when there is the perfect amount of balanced light that your body needs to absorb.

Respect the moon

The moon is much more important to our everyday lives than most realise. It moves the tides on Earth and dictates how crops grow. That happens with the movement of water.

So, the moon affects water, which means the moon cycles affect our bodies which are around 90% water. That in turn affects our brains which affects our mood among other things. This is especially true for females.

We talk about this and what the moon cycles represent for women in our free ebook, Three Lessons On How To Lower Stress Naturally.

Grounding yourself

It’s not only light and water that are key to harmonising our natural cycles. Magnetism is another big one.

There’s lots of scientific evidence out there now that confirms how magnetism affects us. Two of the main ways it affects us in this modern day and age is by sitting in front of a computer too long or having a mobile phone on. It affect your cells.

In order to balance out the magnetism that happens in your body, it’s important you go outside and simply put your feet on the ground. Ground yourself to allow your body to discharge and take on energy.

Wind down with the sun

Another thing you can do is turn any white light off in your house after the sun goes down. We use candle light or red light, which are in our salt rock lamps. We also wear blue-blocking glasses and use a sleep mask. All of these things have significantly improved our quality of sleep and the sleep of our little girls.

I (Angie) have probably noticed the most change from this. When we first started doing these things, I noticed my period cycle started to change immediately. It was completely opposite to where it was supposed to be.

This is extremely interesting because before the invention of the light bulb, women were bleeding in sync on a new moon. But light came in and threw women’s cycles off.

When I (Angie) began to align my circadian rhythm, my period cycle came into rhythm with nature of the moon. My energy levels are now very different. I’m calm at a time when I used to be stressed and I feel like I have much more navigation of my own energy rather than my energy having a hold on me.

Another way cutting blue light off in the evening is improving our lives is by helping our children wind down. They used to get a burst of energy right before bedtime, which made the nighttime routine a little crazy. Now, it’s harmonised with natural energy.

Be at one with nature

The biggest lesson we’ve learned from doing all this is that we’re not separate from nature. One thing that’s become clear is that we need to respect the behaviour of our molecules. We think our behaviour is only in our mind but what we feel and think, and our emotions, stems from what’s happening within the molecules.

Breathing is the fastest way to build the energy to get what we want from life but everything we need is already there in nature.

One of my (Shane) current mentors said they don’t believe nature makes many mistakes. And that is probably true. So, if you’re harmonising yourself with nature, with something that you can pretty much bet on every time, why wouldn’t you want to do that? Wouldn’t that be where you want to place your energy, into the hands of nature?
