Have you ever walked into a room, and naturally gravitated towards someone with a powerful energy?
Or maybe you’ve felt the tension, disapproval, or annoyance of someone pouring their energy out onto you ruining your good mood, penetrating you from across the room?
The energy you bring forth each and every day determines your results in all areas of life…
From your ability to lift up those around you and remain calm in any situation, to the influence you carry with your team, your business, and your family. How you breathe determines how you feel, and in turn it also affects those around you, either in a positive or negative way. That choice is up to you.
Energized Leadership is about being proactive rather than reactive…
About being of service and about knowing when to lead, when to follow, and when to get out of the way.
When you’re a business owner with the weight of the world on your shoulders, or a high performing professional juggling dozens of commitments, obligations and priorities, burnout and reactivity can seem inevitable. But we have good news for you!
Although it’s nearly impossible to think your way out of a bad mood…
There’s a physiological component to it, and a proven formula that works to break up stuck energy… And we can teach it to you. Thoughts feed more thoughts, so no matter how hard you try, you’ve probably experienced epic failure when trying to think your way into a more productive, fluid or positive state. Right?
You CAN, however, breathe your way out of it…
You change your state, and a physical shift happens, which is enough to break a habitual cycle of emotional rollercoasters or never ending feelings of being on edge. This works because how you breathe determines the blood pH, neurotransmitters, hormones and decision making abilities.
Intentional breathing rebalances your chemical state, which not only shifts these unproductive moods, but also:
- Relief from tension, sometimes instantly… freeing up focus for creativity and productivity
- Helps you embody and process emotions
- Balances gas exchange in body which instantly makes you feel better
- Helps you build self-responsibility and self-intervention techniques
The next time you feel a bit on edge, try this simple breath technique:
- Sit comfortably with your spine straight and space between your ribs and hips.
- Breathe in through your nose, evenly for at least 5 seconds. Calmly and quietly.
- Hold it for a second, then exhale slowly for at least 7 seconds.
Continue for several rounds… What do you notice?
Do you feel where the tension is in the body? As you draw it in, notice your diaphragm extending, breathe low into the body and relax your shoulders and jaw. Then test out breathing into the chest and letting the ribs expand, then finally test out breathing high with faster inhales and exhales, 1 second in and 1 second out. Feel it in the collar bones as you relax the belly.
Finally, shift to a triangle pattern.
Start at the bottom left, inhale up the side of the triangle, then smoothly let go at the tip as you follow it down the other side. Pausing at the bottom before starting again.
Repeat at least 3 times.
Then let it go. Take a sigh. Surrender as you release.
How do you feel? Do you notice a state change?
Maybe a bit more calm and alert, peaceful and powerful?
